Gout - Man’s Longest Running Tormentor

In the history of man and his relationship with many bodily diseases and conditions, gout is probably one of the most frequently experienced diseases on record. Though coming from a wide variety of different reasons, both external and internal, the end result is still very much the same. Gout occurs when the body has a surplus influx and supply of uric acid from either too much introduction of purine in the system from gout causing foods and drinks that it cannot easily break down and get rid of. It can also be in part due to a person’s genetic make up that predisposes them to the disease even with the introduction of normal amounts of purine rich food and drink sources. This is a very dangerous disease which can do kidney damage, temporary or permanent.

Because gout is a type of arthritic disease, its symptoms are very painful for anyone to bear. Some signs of the disease to watch out for are redness, swelling, heat on the affected part, and sensitivity of the skin to even at the slightest brush or touch, as well difficulty in moving the joint. The formation of uric acids and its eventual hardening in the areas it has deposited itself are in greater part due to the continuous influx of foods and drinks rich in purines, exposure to cold environments, and hereditary factors.

If the body is bombardment constantly with an overabundant supply of gout causing purines from foods and drinks, combined with a body that has a compromised bodily function due to a sedentary lifestyle, or from having a predisposition to the disease through hereditary factors, then the disease has a greater chance of affecting a person of such nature, compared to one who eats a balanced and healthy diet, regularly exercises, observes moderation in eating and drinking food and drinks high in purine.

Those who have the disease know how much unbearable the pain is. As it affects the joints, being mobile will become quite restricted or may at more times be impossible to do, and also disrupt normal day to day activities like resting or sleeping. So, it’s in the best interest for all concerned to observe precautionary measures like watching ones diet, take the prescribed medicines regularly, and to adhere to the diet recommended by their physicians. Doing this help lessen its harmful and degenerating effects on the joints, and to impede its progression into becoming a grave and untreatable condition.

Although, at present, there is no cure yet for gout, there are still many ways and options available to lessen its impact and stop it from doing permanent damage on those who already have it. Adopting a healthy lifestyle by observing a healthy and balanced diet, and adhering to the doctor’s advice are just some tips to follow to keep gout from wrecking havoc on anyone’s life.
